Joint Statement by México, the United States and Canada on the Second Meeting of Undersecretaries of the T-MEC/USMCA/CUSMA / @SE_mx >>>

#SE.- Following the second meeting of Under Secretaries under the Agreement between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC/USMCA/CUSMA or «the Agreement»), Deputy United States Trade Representative Jayme White, Canada’s Deputy Minister of International Trade Rob Stewart, and Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Trade Alejandro Encinas issued the following statement:

«Following a successful North American Leaders’ Summit (NALS) in Mexico City, the United States, Canada and Mexico today held the Second T-MEC/USMCA/CUSMA Under Secretaries’ Meeting at the Institute of the Americas in San Diego, California. We received updates from 11 treaty committees and working groups that have met since the Second Meeting of the Free Trade Commission last July. This work demonstrates that continued implementation of the T-MEC/USMCA/CUSMA is an important priority for all three Parties and that the Agreement remains the foundation for continued North American economic integration and enhanced regional competitiveness.»

«Today we address plans to foster that competitiveness, including cooperation during emergency situations to maintain, restore or address problems related to the flow of trade between the Parties, and we highlight the work of the Competitiveness Committee to improve the skills of our regional workforce. In that regard, we welcome the recent announcement by the George W. Bush Institute and the North American Strategy for Competitiveness (NASCO) of their intention to publish a study on workforce development in North America.»

«We also addressed concrete steps to ensure that the Treaty’s ban on the importation of goods produced with forced labor will soon be implemented throughout North America, bringing us together to eradicate the scourge of forced labor from the global trade system. We heard directly from the Executive Director of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation about ongoing trilateral cooperation activities that enable robust implementation of the commitments in the Environment chapter of the T-MEC/USMCA/CUSMA and the Environmental Cooperation Agreement, and information on the Commission’s public submission process.
